This paper initially estimates the volume of dollars in Iranian economy over the period 1959-2001, using Ericsson-kamin approach (2001). It then studies the existence of currency substitution and by using time series data investigates whether it ‘s trend was increasing. The results suggest that in spite of fluctuations in the volume of dollars during the period, the degree of currency substitution has been increased.
